Crosland Southeast, in partnership with Nuveen Real Estate, broke ground in Fall 2021 on construction for Commonwealth, a unique and energetic mixed-use development that will revive the previously dated Central Square shopping center location. Spanning 12-acres, Commonwealth will deliver retailers, restaurants, residences, a boutique hotel, and over 400,000 sq. ft. of Class A office space in the heart of the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
The development will embody the unique identity of Plaza Midwood, prioritizing walkability within the site, ample green space, engaging neighborhood programming, and large-scale art installations. Future transit stops via the Light Rail’s Gold and Silver Lines will allow for convenient and expanded accessibility to the site.
Phase I plans center on the strategic revitalization of two legacy buildings, previously home to Cole Manufacturing, for the purpose of establishing a unique destination for signature restaurants and curated retailers. With an expected completion date of Spring 2024, this phase will also include the community’s first mid-rise office building, which will house over 150,000 sq. ft. of Class A office space, and a 383-unit luxury apartment complex, complemented by 100,000 SF of experiential retail and restaurant space. Phase II is set to kick off in spring 2023 and will add another 250,000+ sq. ft. of Class A office space, as well as a boutique hotel.
